Zero Assumption Recovery (ZAR) is read-only data recovery toolkit to extract data from the damaged HDD to another medium, leaving the original disk intact. Working from within Windows, ZAR can recover FAT16/32 and NTFS (including NTFS5) volumes. Long and/or national file names and NTFS compression are supported. Typical applications include drives formatted, hit by virus, software malfunction, or power spike.

This Windows version also includes a DOS version.

Limitations: Only (up to) four directories can be recovered in a demo version and is unable to load scan result file. However it does save these files, to avoid rescanning the disk once you got a full version.
